 | Quotes for everyday professional life and next presentation Jun 3, 2010 |
| Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life is a collection of quotes, one-liners and proverbs that help you at dull moments in your career or just the need for a strong motivational phrase in your next presentation. There are quotes on work, leadership, character, success, problems and money from a variety of politicians, celebrities, former leaders and obscure ones. Pick your favorites from people like John D. Rockefeller, Colin Powell, Dwight D. Eisenhower, L.L. Bean, Nancy Pelosi, Henry Ford or Arnold Schwarzenegger. Classic wisdom...is a great gift book, helpful to start each day or end your e-mails with an `original' signature. I just picked a couple to give you an impression: "All you need is love...and some comprehensive technology!" (Bono), "Ability is of little account without opportunity" (Lucille Ball) and "The best work never was and never will be done for money" ( John Ruskin). | | | | Interesting read Jun 3, 2010 |
| I reviewed this book for Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze program. The book provides a collection of quotes to inspire, motivate and inform people aspiring to be successful in their chosen professional field. The book can be covered cover-to-cover in a one time read but it will take a while to assimilate and put into practice the wisdom conveyed. It makes for a very interesting read. I personally would have preferred more quotations from people in the business arena as opposed to people from the political field. All in all, it is a book worth having in your book shelf and when consumed with doubt with respect to your career, turning over a few pages should help alleviate those doubts. | | | | Great! Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life [Bryan Curtis]
I read this book for a few different reasons: 1) I love quotes. Who doesn't like a good collection of great poetic wisdom? and 2) I am a young professional. Well, kind of. Does an unpaid internship count?
Anyways, once I started reading it didn't take me long to get through all of the quotes from cover to cover. It is a great collection of quotes that will have you turning every page when you first pick it up, however, it will make a great book to keep on your desk at work or your computer desk at home. It is full of practical wisdom for not just professionals, but for anyone who has any capacity of a leadership position. The book is full of inspiration and motivation from seasoned and successful professionals. I highly recommend Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life to any quote lover, leadership figure, college student....anyone, really. It makes for a quick and pleasant read and will remain a great resource for professional inspiration.
One of my favorite quotes from the first time through the book comes from Conrad Hilton: "Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit." | | | | Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life Jun 2, 2010 |
It has been said that if you want to be successful, you have to surround yourself with successful people. If you are like me, you may not be not privy to such a selection of friends. "Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life," by Bryan Curtis, a book of quotes from some of the most successful people past and present, allows you to immerse yourself in their way of thinking.
I found "Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life" to be informing, inspiring, and convicting. You can see how those quoted knew not only how to dream, but what it takes to fulfill those dreams. Many quotes offer some discerning words to those who need motivating to achieve their own dreams.
While the book is not organized into chapters or themes, I still find it a great read. One other thing I would like to have seen is a reference page for the quotes.
I recommend this book for anyone looking for inspiration and motivation, or as a gift to someone you want to impart them to.

| | | | Valuable but not Inspirational Jun 1, 2010 |
In the world of business books, there are inspirational books and valuable books. Inspirational books give you a shot of motivation to get you working on your business again. Valuable books are the ones you turn to again and again. When Thomas Nelson offered to send me a review copy, I thought that a book of quotations such as Classical Wisdom for the Professional Life would appear to be inspirational. It is not, but it is valuable. The book is a collection of quotes from various business, government and entertainment leaders. In addition to spanning industries, the book also spans time periods, combining classical quotes with more recent ones.
As a writer, I appreciate the value these quotes provide. For this reason, I know I will turn back to this book again and again when writing articles and books. However, I would have appreciated the quotes divided by subject (or industry). While the book is targeted at all professions (not just business) it is a little heavy with quotes from politicians such as Nancy Pelosi or Barack Obama. I would have appreciated more quotes from prominent business leaders throughout history. Nonetheless, this book remains valuable for the wealth of quotes included, value I know I will tap into for a long time. | | | Write your own review about Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life
