Without consulting anyone, Christy, the nineteen year old mission school teacher, solicited the necessary supplies for a telephone installation at the mission. Little did she realize the obstacles to actually installing it.
David, the young mission preacher, gets ready to try with help from the men of Cutter Gap where the mission is located. In doing so, Christy finds that the greatest obstacle to face them, is the superstition of the Boggin monster on Boggin Mountain. Adults claim to have actually seen the monster and only a few men possess enough courage to attempt helping install the line.
Determined to disprove the myth, Christy starts out to climb the mountain on a rainy day. Her route is slippery and very rocky. Presently, a roaring, crashing sound terrifies her as a huge boulder breaks loose, knocks a tree over, its branches pinning Christ to the soggy ground. She can't break free. Desperately, she cries for help, and then she sees the Boggin!
Will David be able to install the telephone? If he does, who will be the first to use it?
This delightful story teaches not only perserverence, but also how to conquer fear. |
