This Bible is a good size for a purse or whatever you carry with you normally. The cover material is so-so. Feels like it might crease easily. But yes, for the price, it is a fine little Bible. Also, something I had expected but is not the case... the little design on the cover is NOT engraved like the other colors/designs this compact is available in.
The font is tiny! I had a teenager comment on how small the print was today. It is about the same size as the print in one of those Bibles you could fit in a pocket.
I bought this as a replacement for a much better quality Bible that was lost. I knew I wouldn't be getting the same quality, but needed something affordable and portable. But something this inexpensive and not real leather won't last forever, especially if you're carrying it around daily. | | |  | Good compact bible May 17, 2009 |
This Bible translation is the NASB, which you can read about in reviews elsewhere. A thumbnail description: the NASB is considered the most literally accurate translation of the Bible; it is very similar to the RSV and the ESV. It does not contain the Apocrypha. The NASB is ideal for study and, because the language is understandable, devotional reading as well. But please look at other reviews of those Bibles for differences among the three translations and deeper descriptions of the translations.
Focusing on the physical Bible itself, it has 6.8 font point size and is double column. The font is small, but this is a compact bible. And make no mistake, it is compact. It is not a red letter version. The edges are gold colored which give it the appearance of a more expensive Bible. Despite the description in the product listing, this is not a leather bound tome. It is bound in something called "LeatherTex" which is fake leather on a heavy paper substrate. If you're familiar with Thomas Nelson Bibles with Leather Flex, this is very similar in texture, feel, and appearance: it feels more like leather than most bonded leather Bibles do. The pages appear to be glued in, but I haven't inspected it that closely yet to be able to tell. Given how inexpensive this bible is, I'd suspect they're glued in rather than sewn in. They do seem secure regardless of how they're bound into the cover.
The size lends itself well to being carried in a car, a briefcase, a purse, what have you, and is probably ideal for pastors or others who need to carry a bible, but don't want to carry a large bible.
